Largest UM Churches In Relation To Their Annual Conferences

I recently received this email from Deb Smith, Director of Best Practices for the General Board of Discipleship of the United Methodist Church. She writes:

A question from a staff member prompted me to take a look at congregations that account for more than 5% of their annual conference’s total number of average worshippers. I thought you might find the list interesting. If an annual conference is not listed, then no congregation in the conference accounted for 5% or more of the total number of average worshippers.

  • Kansas East: Church of the Resurrection, Kansas City – 23.68% of annual conference worshippers
  • Alaska: St. John, Anchorage – 19.18% of of annual conference worshippers, (Five of the 28 churches in the Alaska Conference have over 5% of worshippers, but I have just included the church with the highest percentage in this list)
  • Red Bird: Booneville – 12.46% of annual conference worshippers, (Seven of the 25 churches in the Red Bird Conference have over 5% of worshippers, but I have just included the church with the highest percentage in this list)
  • Central Texas: Whites Chapel, Southlake–8.32% of annual conference worshippers
  • California-Nevada: Glide Memorial, San Francisco – 8.07% of annual conference worshippers
  • Oregon – Idaho: First Boise – 6.71% of annual conference worshippers
  • Yellowstone: Bozeman – 6.5% of annual conference worshippers
  • Oklahoma: Asbury, Tulsa – 5.98% of annual conference worshippers
  • New Mexico: St. Mark, El Paso – 5.8% of annual conference worshippers
  • Rio Grande: El Buen Pastor, Edinburg – 5.75% of annual conference worshippers
  • Texas: Windsor Village: 5.65% of annual conference worshippers
  • Southwest Texas: University, San Antonio: 5.55% of annual conference worshippers
  • Alabama- West Florida: Frazier Memorial, Montgomery – 5.52% of annual conference worshippers
  • Tennessee: Brentwood – 5.51% of annual conference worshippers
  • Northwest Texas: First Lubbock – 5.39% of annual conference worshippers, Lakeridge  Lubbock  – 5.36% of annual conference worshippers
  • North Texas: Highland Park, Dallas– 5.1% of annual conference worshippers
  • Nebraska: St. Marks, Lincoln- 5.07% of annual conference worshippers
